SPECIALTY POTTERY

Here at Kachina House we are pleased to offer you a wide variety of specialty Native American Indian pottery sure to catch the eye and satisfy the desires of any serious collector as well as the casual admirer of these ancient styles.

Spanning 5,000 square feet in the Sedona area, the Kachina House storeroom and warehouse houses some of the most beautiful specialty pottery in the country. Our pieces range from finely etched wedding vases to intricately designed seed vases and harvest pots. All of these pieces are handmade by Native American Indians, and designed with traditional techniques and decorations that have ancient symbolic meanings.

Our selection features a broad range of techniques from tribes all across North America, so we’re confident that you will be able to find the perfect piece for your collection no matter what style may fit your tastes. Whether you prefer the bold, broad repetitious patterns found on the Santa Domingo style vessels, or the beautifully intricate designs of the traditional Zuni white ware, our specialty pottery is not to be missed. We also carry the magnificent ebony pottery created through the Santa Clara technique. This technique burns special elements like manure in the kiln, which stains the regularly red clay with the rich, black smoke. The pot is then gently polished to a high shine in the raised areas while the lower areas in the finely etched design usually are left matte black to contrast with the outer layer. The end result is a deep black appearance that resembles stone once it is polished.

Though the beauty of these pieces are often striking, the collector should also appreciate the utility of these pieces since most are designed as specific, and often important vessels. For example, the seed pots were designated to hold and store the precious seeds of a harvest through the winter. These seeds would then be used for the following planting season. Harvest pots, urns and bowls all have equally important roles in the life of the tribe that created them.  We also offer finely etched wedding vases in this section, but be sure to visit the page dedicated completely to these sentimental vessels.

Nestled in the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona, Kachina House is proud to be the largest distributer of Native American Indian art and artifacts in the state. We welcome you to come visit our large showroom if you live in or are visiting the area. Remember that what you see represented here on our website is but a small sample of what we carry in our store, so if you are unable to find what you’re looking for on our website, please contact us and we’ll try to find it among our other inventory, and if we’re unable to find what you’re looking for you can request a special order. We’re happy to take both individual and wholesale orders.
