Native American Hopi Carved Navajo Clown Katsina Doll by Silas Roy
The Navajo Clown Katsina (Tasavau) is a clown used to make fun of Navajo people. His songs are sung in Navajo and he appears to perform his songs and dances in a backward and uncoordinated fashion, to mock the Navajo. This clown by Silas Roy is particularly unique with his concha belt and heavy turquoise jewelry. It appears that he gained a little weight over the long winter and his ceremonial pants are not fitting quite like they did last year. Click on numbered boxes below image for additional views.
