Old Style Hopi Scorpion or Throwing Stick Man Traditional Runner Katsina Doll by Orlan Honyumptewa

The Scorpion (Puchkofmoktaka) is also called the Throwing Stick Man. He gets his name from the scorpion, who flicks his tail to sting. This Katsina is primarily a runner. He carries two rabbit sticks, made of leather or cloth and stuffed with cotton so as not to cause injury, which may be thrown at someone who escapes the Scorpion during the race. The Scorpion Katsina appears in the Mixed Dance. Click on numbered boxes below image for additional views.
