Hopi Kachinas |

|
The Hopi use only the root of the cottonwood tree to carve their kachinas (katsinas). They consider the cottonwood tree sacred and do not cut it down or use any of the wood from the branches. Each doll is carved using a single piece of cottonwood root. Sometimes the accessories will be carved and attached but ALWAYS the main part of the figure (head, torso, arms and legs) are done from a single piece. Below you will find samples of the pieces we have. Please call for current availability. These are one-of-a-kind pieces and therefore we cannot guarantee that what is pictured here is what we can get for you. We will e-mail you what we have in the shop at the moment.
