Silas Roy (1949-- ) was born in Moenkopi and has lived in Tuba City his entire life. His father is from Hotevilla and his mother from Moenkopi. He was inspired by his uncles to carve and is self-taught. Silas has been carving since 1963. His favorite katsina to carve is the Eagle. He has two brothers, Coolidge Roy and David Roy, who are also carvers.
