Melvin is Navajo (Dine). He is from the White Corn Zuni Edgewater Clan. His father is a railroader and of the Black Streak Clan. His mother is a rug weaver. His grandfather was a blacksmith and a silversmith. Melvin has four brothers and five sisters. He is a self-taught artist and is constantly learning more about working with clay from his brother David John. Melvin is married (Wanda) and has three children (2 boys and 1 girl). He currently resides in Tuba City.

 

Melvin is willing to do commissions in clay or metal.
