The Whipper Katsina appears in different colors representing the different directions. He is considered an old Kachina although it is usually impersonated by small boys. Its main functions are that of a guard during Angk'wa (mainly at Third Mesa) and responsible for maintaining order during the ceremony. He is a whipper so he also punishes clowns, children, and people when they misbehave.
