Antique Native American Hopi Carved Buffalo Katsina Doll by Peter Shelton Jr.
Like most animal Katsinam, the Buffalo (Mosairu) dances to increase his kind. This Katsina is very well-known and is the most powerful. He can kill any evil thoughts and is a great spiritual protector. This particular katsina was carved by Peter Shelton Jr. in the early 1970s. It has an unusual black face and wonderful crocheted leggings. He carries a lightning stick and a rattle. A truly wonderful older piece. Click on numbered boxes below image for additional views.
