Antique Native American Hopi Carved White Bear (Hon) Katsina Doll by Arthur Holmes Sr.
The Bear Katsina (Hon) is frequently distinguished only by color, such as white, black, blue or yellow. All Bear Katsinam are believed to be very powerful and capable of curing illness. They are also considered great warriors. Bear Katsinam appear most often in the Soyohim or Mixed Dances of springtime. This wonderful White Bear by Arthur Holmes Sr., was carved in the late 1970s. This is a fabulous representation of the bear katsina with his leather cape and trim. You can feel the power of this Katsina as he dances on his arrowhead-shaped base. A great older piece.
