Ledger Painting - The Tall Man of the Forest
This Deer Hide with Hair On is hung from a solid dowel that is 40 inches long wrapped in leather and beads and finished with a carved eagle head. The Deer Hide has a painted ledger scene of two hunters around the campfire telling the story of the Tall Man of the Forest who it is said carried a long whip and when he gets angry he whips the bark off the trees and roars like thunder. This story was usually enough to keep people from going into the woods alone at night. The hide crops approximately 26 inches from the bar.
