Native American Hopi Carved Laguna Gambler Katsina Doll by John Fredericks
This Katsina originates from either Laguna or Santo Domingo Pueblo. He appears in summer and night dances. He carries rings in one hand and a stick in the other. He throws the rings one at a time in the air and tries to catch them on his stick. If/when he gets all his rings on the stick he can go home. This is the gamble. His mask can appear with stripes, like the tobacco flower. Click on numbered boxes below image for additional views.
