Native American Hopi Carved Parrot Bird Katsina Doll by Leon Dallas
The Parrot Katsina (Kyash or Kyaro), is one of several Katsinam credited with bringing abundant summer growth to the corn crops on the Mesas. The feathers of the parrot were prized by prehistoric Indian groups. Feathers and even live parrots were traded from Central America as far north as the Four Corners area. This is a beautiful older doll by Leon Dallas. It is finely carved and has great proportion and motion. Click on numbered boxes below image for additional views.
