Old Style Hopi Carved Mudhead Swaying Man Traditional Clown Katsina Doll by Kevin Masawiestewa
The Mudhead Swaying Man is a fairly recent import from the Rio Grande area. He appears in the plaza dances and his function is to cause the corn to grow and produce. His name comes from the swaying of the corn stalks in the wind, which he imitates in his dance. Click on numbered boxes below image for additional views.
