Native American Hopi Carved Morning Singer Katsina Doll by Cecil Calnimptewa
Early Morning Singer Katsina (Talavai) represents early morning or dawn because he appears at dawn during the Bean Dance (Powamuya) and announces news. He sings songs to wake the village while passing out bean sprouts for the people to eat. This beautiful Talavai was carved by Cecil Calnimptewa. As ever, he did a fabulous job on this little, very detailed carving. Click on numbered boxes below image for additional views.
