Native American Hopi Handbuilt and Handpainted Ladle by Garnet Pavatea

Beautiful traditional ladle by Hopi potter Garnet Pavatea (1915 - 1981) born at Tewa village of Hano on First Mesa. She had a long and productive career beginning around 1946 and lasting until her death in 1981. During her lifetime she entered over 400 pieces of pottery for judging winning an incredible 139 ribbons. This wonderful ladle shows a little "blush" that the potters work to achieve. These areas that are warmer and darker red/orange are from the above ground firing the pueblo potters utilize. This beautifully painted older piece is from a private collection and has some of the scuffs and wear marks that one would assume would be present on a piece that is certainly at least 40 years old. Click on numbered boxes below image for additional views. This piece is NOT available for wholesale.
