This wonderful pot was handbuilt and handetched by Mata Ortiz resident Emiliano Rodriguez. This pot shows skeletons playing instruments in a churchyard. They are celebrating Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in the Central and South regions, and is acknowledged around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on family and friends gathering to pray for and remember those who have died, and help support their spiritual journey. This is an unusual piece because it is mostly black. Pottery ring included.
