This wonderful pot was handbuilt and handetched by Mata Ortiz resident Emiliano Rodriguez. This pot shows skeletons standing as if at a wedding in a churchyard. There is a couple and then two individual women, all dressed up. They are celebrating Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in the Central and South regions, and is acknowledged around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on family and friends gathering to pray for and remember those who have died, and help support their spiritual journey. Pottery ring included.
