Mata Ortiz Handbuilt and Handpainted Pot by Lydia Quezada

This wonderful pot was handbuilt and handpainted by Mata Ortiz resident Lydia Quezada. A spectacular piece with pristine painting and a perfect ancient shape cut out of the front, all set on a beautiful black background. The glossy black is achieved by rubbing a mixture of kerosene and graphite into the clay and polishing it with a stone until it shines. This pot is spectacular to look at, and when it is held, feels perfect to the touch. The pot is so perfectly made that it stands on its own. We include the ring to protect the bottom of the pot.
