Gourd Art by Robert Rivera
Rivera’s journey as an artist began in the late 1970’s when he saw a mound of gourds on the side of the road while on a road trip from New Mexico to California. He began creating and transforming these gourds into whatever he could think of and channeled the ideas and designs of the Native American people.
His work has evolved over the years because he is consistently finding new artistic purpose for his gourds. Rivera was successful in showing his Pueblo Gourd art to the world and earned an immediate following because of it. Between etching, dying, stitching, and more, Rivera’s gourds are always one-of-a-kind.
