Dorleen Gashweseoma

Wherever Dorleen travels, she thinks of her grandmother as she looks at native plants to determine what she could use from Mother Earth to make a basket. Dorleen grew up in a very traditional Hopi family and her grandmother taught her how to make baskets from the products of Mother Earth. Dorleen is a master weaver and her beautiful baskets have garnered many awards, including the Arizona Governor’s Arts Award, and the Best of Show at the 72nd Annual Hopi Festival of Arts and Culture the Museum of Northern Arizona. Dorleen is married to weaver and carver Valjean Lalo and has two sons, Gene Lalo and Raynard Lalo, both wonderful Old Style Hopi carvers.
