Native American Hopi Carved Paralyzed Tuhavi and Blind Mudhead Katsina Doll

Description

Native American Hopi Carved Paralyzed Tuhavi and Blind Mudhead Katsina Doll by Henry Naha

According to legend, one Katsina, in this case the Tuhavi was paralyzed and in order to get around was carried by a friend, the Mudhead (Koyemsi), who was blind. Together they were able to hunt, travel, and accomplish many tasks. After their very long journey, they meet all the Katsinam at the Home-Going (Niman) ceremony and to show appreciation for them, both are healed. This Katsina pair is the true definition of teamwork. Henry did a fabulous job on this single-piece carving. It is his first like this and we are excited to have it in the shop. A complicated piece to carve and he did a wonderful job.
