Native American Hopi Carved Squash Chief Katsina Doll

Native American Hopi Carved Squash Chief Katsina Doll by Leander Tenakhongva
Squash (Patung) is a Chief Katsina for the Pumpkin Clan. Much of the Hopi food comes from crops which they grow or gather themselves. Squash, corn, and beans make up the traditional cultivated food of the Hopi people. This plant Katsina is important for in the arid land where the Hopi live, a Katsina that brings his own water is highly valued. This is a fabulous Squash by Leander; his head is an actual gourd and if you CAREFULLY shake it, it rattles.
