Native American Hopi Made Wicker Plaque with Snow Maiden

Availability: In stock

This oval Hopi Wicker Plaque is traditionally used for payback and for ceremonies. These baskets are made by plaiting sumac, natural and dyed, to achieve many designs. Many of the Hopi wickers, coils, and sifters are used for social or ceremonial purposes. This particular basket has a flat Snow Maiden attached to the face. Snow Maiden (Qotsa Mana or Nuvak'chin Mana) represents the snow and is one of the rasping Katsinam as well. Her presence is a prayer for the coming cold weather, for snow to fall over the winter so that in the springtime there will be moisture in the land for planting.
