Native American Hopi Made Figurative Coil Basket with Dragonfly Katsina

Description

Native American Hopi Made Figurative Coil Basket with Dragonfly Katsina by Sharon Lomakema

On Second Mesa the Hopi weavers specialize in coil basketry. Hopi coiled baskets are woven by wrapping bundles of plant material with a single piece of plant material, usually yucca. The colors are usually limited to white, yellow, green, red and black. Designs often found on these baskets are Katsinam, animals, blanket patterns and geometrics. This is a beautiful basket with two Dragonfly Katsinam on opposite sides. This was won in a footrace during a Basket Dance by Augustine Mowa III.
