Zuni Carved Bear Fetish by Edna Leki (dec.)

This wonderful bear was carved from orange alabaster by Zuni artist Edna Leki. The bear is accented with turquoise eyes and an offering bundle of shell, coral and turquoise. Bear is the guardian of the West. Bear is associated with great strength and is considered to be a powerful healer. Edna Leki is reputed to be one of the first female carvers in Zuni. She was the daughter of fetish carver Teddy Weahkee.
