1990s Native American Jemez Made Storyteller with One Hundred Little Ones by Mary Ellen Toya (1934-1990)

Amazing storyteller by Mary Ellen Toya from Jemez, NM. The woman is singing stories of their cultural history to the children and they are singing along. EAch one of these children were crated by hand and placed all over this storyteller. The storyteller is an adaptation of centuries-old creations in figurine pottery. Cultural traditions and values have historically been passed on by tribal elders through songs an stories geared to teaching the young. It is in these delightful representations that the intense love of the Native American Indians for their children is most clearly shown. This unusual and really fun piece came from a private collection.
