Mata Ortiz Handbuilt and Handetched Day of the Dead Pot
Native Puebloan Handbuilt and Handetched Day of the Dead Pot by Alfredo Rodriguez
This wonderful pot was handbuilt and handetched by Mata Ortiz resident Alfredo Rodriguez. This pot shows skeletons partying in a graveyard and wildlife enjoying the festivities. They are celebrating Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos), a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in the Central and Southern regions, and acknowledged around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on family and friends gathering to pray for and remember those who have died, and to help support their spiritual journey. This is a beautiful piece with the background and figures etched out of the black surface. Pottery ring included.
