Native Puebloan Handbuilt and Handpainted Pot by Ismael Sandoval

This wonderful pot was handbuilt and handpainted by Mata Ortiz resident Ismael Sandoval. This very traditional shape has a wonderful mirror black finish and the medalllions feature fish. The ancient patterns are pristinely painted. This pot is handbuilt and then shaped with blades to thin the walls. The high sheen is achieved by rubbing a mixture of kerosene and graphite on the surface of the pot and polishing it with a stone. The pot is then painted with manganese, fired, washed, and wiped down to get this beautiful finished product. Custom pottery stand included.
