Mata Ortiz Handbuilt and Handpainted Seed Pot with Ants by Yoly Ledezma

This wonderful seed pot was handbuilt and handpainted by Mata Ortiz resident Yoly Ledezma. This type of pot would be used to store seeds in the winter, then in the springtime the pot would be shattered and the seeds planted. This piece has beautiful geometric painting complete with etched ants crawling across the black squares. The ant can be seen as a role model for any group of people as ant is both industrious and group-oriented and works for all. Pottery ring included.
