Mata Ortiz Handbuilt and Handpainted Seed Pot with Dragonflies by Elicena Cota

This spectacular seed pot has a mirror-like black background that was painted with brick red with sgraffito etching and beautiful dragonflies. This pot style would be used to store seeds through the winter; in the springtime the seeds would be planted and often the pot would be shattered. This piece was handbuilt and handpainted and etched by Mata Ortiz resident Elicena Cota. Pottery ring included.
