Native American Hopi Carved Greasy Racer Katsina Doll by Faren Talahytewa

Greasy Racer (Wiktsin-hoya or Wikchina) serves as a runner and a policeman. He smears grease on the faces and clothing of opponents after he catches them in a footrace. The "marked" person must wear that mark for the remainder of the ceremony. This is a fabulous carving by Faren. The motionn in the racer as he looks for his next "victim" and the black grease smeared on his hands are really wonderful. We are grateful that Faren brought this piece into our shop.
