Native American Jemez Handbuilt Stacked Turtles
Native American Jemez Handbuilt Stacked Turtles by Marcella Yepa
This large and spectacular stacked turtle was handbuilt, fired traditionally and polished with a smooth stone by Marcella Yepa from Jemez Pueblo, NM. It is believed by some Native Americans that we are living on the back of a turtle. This turtle and the pattern on his shell is a traditional Chickasaw design. Marcella is half Chickasaw and received a Blue Ribbon for this piece at the Chickasaw Festival Annual Meeting. It is a striking piece...and it comes with the ribbon.
