Native American Jemez Made Storyteller with Four Children and Pueblo

Description

Native American Jemez Made Storyteller with Four Children and Pueblo by Felicia Fragua

This is a classic storyteller by Felicia Fragua from Jemez, NM. She is renowned for her double storytellers with pueblo. The woman, with a basket on her lap, is telling stories of their cultural history to the four little ones and they sing the stories with her. When you turn this piece around, there is another maiden, a Corn Maiden, watching over the pueblo. The Corn Maiden is a prayer for corn. She also honors Mother Earth and her continuing ability to feed her children. The inside of this piece, behind the pueblo, has cave paintings. The storyteller is an adaptation of centuries-old creations in figurine pottery. Cultural traditions and values have historically been passed on by tribal elders through songs an stories geared to teaching the young. It is in these delightful representations that the intense love of the Native American Indians for their children is most clearly shown. A really beautiful addition to a classic storyteller. I had to adjust the lighting so you could see inside this piece, it is not to be missed.
