Native American Hopi Carved Prayer Feathers

Description

Native American Hopi Carved Prayer Feathers by Norman Cuch

Prayer feathers are commonly given as a gift to heal the heart. Just as ancient Americans used the feathers to send prayers to the heavens and draw healing power from the sky, so with all sincerity we hope such healing accompanies you with every footstep. These individual cottonwood carved feathers are beautiful on the front and back.

Description

The Longhair Redbeard wears his hair loose on his back to represent falling rain. He is one of the most popular Katsinam. These Katsinam appear in a group and sing a very powerful melodious song which may be one of the reasons they are such favorites. Their purpose is to bring rain, and it is said that they seldom dance without the appearance of a soft gentle rain to help the crops grow. The red beard represents the rain falling through the setting sun, when it can appear as if the sky is bleeding. Below this Redbeard is an ear of corn that will grow when the rains come.
