Native American Made Crow Father or Raven Warrior Katsina Doll

Description

Native American Made Crow Father or Raven Warrior Katsina Doll by Sammie Walker (Navajo-Hopi)

Crow Man is one of the warriors who make war on the clowns during the Plaza Dances. He comes to threaten the clowns for their non-Hopi behavior, appearing again and again until finally he and others who have the same function descend upon the clowns and thoroughly chastise them. Raven was first and foremost a creator and trickster god, especially of the Haida (Northwest Coast) tribe, who claim he discovered the first humans hiding in a clam shell and brought the humans berries and salmon. Raven is also the long-suffering victim of arch-rival in trickery, the Coyote. The action is wonderful and the carving, painting and details are very accurate.
