The Buffalo Soldier honors the buffalo, sends up prayers for successful hunts, and gives thanks for the abundance the animal brings. This large figure by Sammie has all his regalia on for the dance before the hunt. His feathered bonnet indicates his successful hunts. He has a spear and a tomahawk at the ready. The leather is smoked and all the beading is by hand. This is a wonderful piece that is created in a style that is unusual today. Very few of the artists make the Native American dolls this way. The action is wonderful and the carving, painting and details are very accurate.
