Native American Navajo Red Clay Seed Pot with Buffalo
Description
Native American Navajo Red Clay Seed Pot with Buffalo by Paul Lansing
This deeply etched seed pot with traditional Navajo patterns is accented with a buffalo and a warrior on horseback. In the fall the women would take the seeds for next Spring and place them in these pots. These pots would be placed in the corner of their home, stacked so the bottom of one pot would seal the top of the other. This storage technique would save space and keep the rodents from ruining next years' seed crop. The buffalo represents good medicine, the fulfillment of powers and steadfast endurance. The buffalo was the mainstay of the Plains Indians and was used for food as well as shelter, clothing and weapons.
