A wonderful storyteller by Cheyenne Jim from Taos, NM. She is Navajo and was raised on the Navajo reservation. The storyteller is seated on the ground with her traditional broom skirt flaring out behind her singing the stories of their cultural history to the children. This storyteller is wearing large earrings, bracelets and even a concha belt. A classic piece by Cheyenne with all three little ones tucked into the arms of the storyteller. The storyteller is an adaptation of centuries-old creations in figurine pottery. Cultural traditions and values have historically been passed on by tribal elders through songs an stories geared to teaching the young. It is in these delightful representations that the intense love of the Native American Indians for their children is most clearly shown. This piece was acquired from a private collection.
