Native American Acoma Handpainted Seed Pot with Lizards
Description
Native American Acoma Handpainted Seed Pot with Lizards by Brenda Cerno
This seed pot was handpainted with classic Acoma geometric designs by Acoma potter Brenda Cerno and has lizards scampering around the top. The lizard symbolizes patience and wisdom, for this reptile lives in a very harsh environment and knows where to find water and when to seek out shade from the glaring desert sun. In the fall the women would take the seeds for next Spring and place them in these pots and then stack them. These pots would be placed in the corner of their home, stacked so the bottom of one pot would seal the top of the other. This storage technique would save space and keep the rodents from ruining next years' seed crop.
