Vintage Native American Cochiti Handbuilt and Handpainted Owl Effigy by Juanita Cordero Arquero (1906-?)

Effigy pots are recreations of ancient vessels that have been found in many puebloan areas. It is believed that these pieces were created to depict the birds and animal life that were so important to the people. This owl is a classic Cochiti piece and was created by Juanita Cordero Arquero sometime between the 1960s and 1980s. This is from a private collection.
