Native American Jemez Handbuilt and Handpainted Pot with Mudhead by Benjamin and Geraldine Toya

This beautiful pot with a little Mudhead clinging to the side was created by Native American potters and sculptors Benjamin and Geraldine Toya, of Jemez Pueblo New Mexico. The paints are all traditionally made from nature and the painting is completely freehand. The Mudhead, originally from Zuni Pueblo is another of the clown kachinas. He leads the racers into the village and challenges villagers in contests to prove their strength. During the pauses in a dance, Mudheads may engage in games with the boys and girls in the audience. This one has climbed up on this pot to see if he can take something out of it.
