Native American Santo Domingo Handbuilt Polychrome Bowl
Description
Native American Santo Domingo Handbuilt Polychrome Bowl by Vicky T. Calabaza
In late 19th century, Santo Domingo Pueblo developed a style of decoration that was unlike that of any of the other pueblos. Santo Domingo potters developed a strong bold form of ornamentation in black and red. The Santo Domingo religious beliefs prevents the potters from including human figures on their pottery for "only Creator makes figures." There is a cracked area on the surface of the interior of the bowl. This happened as the clay dried and is not through the bottom and does not affect the stability of the bowl.
