Native American San Juan Handbuilt and Handcarved Bowl by Tomasita Reyes Montoya (1899-1978)

Wonderful handbuilt and incised bowl by San Juan potter Tomasita Montoya. This piece was created with micaceous clay and deeply carved then painted and the base and rim rim were stone polished. This is a classic San Juan (Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo) piece. Tomasita Reyes Montoya was one of the original seven potters in the 1930s San Juan Pueblo revival of pottery production. This is an older piece from a private collection.
