Native American Santo Domingo Handbuilt Bowl
Description
Native American Santo Domingo Handbuilt Polychrome Bowl by Joseph Bailon
In late 19th century, Santo Domingo Pueblo developed a style of decoration that was unlike that of any of the other pueblos. Santo Domingo potters developed a strong bold form of ornamentation in black and red. The Santo Domingo religious beliefs prevents the potters from including human figures on their pottery for "only Creator makes figures." This bowl has a corn plant inside on the bottom. The corn is a staple crop of the Pueblo people.
