Native American Santo Domingo Handbuilt Polychrome Dough Bowl--XL
Description
Native American Santo Domingo Handbuilt Polychrome Dough Bowl
In late 19th century, Santo Domingo Pueblo developed a style of decoration that was unlike that of any of the other pueblos. Santo Domingo potters developed a strong bold form of ornamentation in black and red. The Santo Domingo religious beliefs prevents the potters from including human figures on their pottery for "only Creator makes figures." This is a wonderful older dough bowl (mid-1900s) that came from a private collection. This piece is unsigned.
