Description

Old Style Hopi Carved Sunset Crater Traditional Kachina Doll (Katsina Doll) by Jared Quamahongnewa

Sunset Crater Katsina (Kana) is named for an extinct volcano near Flagstaff, Arizona. Legend tells us that the people of a Hopi village became black-hearted and cared only for gambling. The chief, having no control, asked Kana to punish these people. Soon a light appeared and began to grow on the distant San Francisco peaks. After four nights fire and smoke filled the air of the Hopi village, suffocating and burning to death all of the evil people.
