Esteban the Moor (Chakwaina or Chaquoma) is originally from the Rio Grande Pueblo. He represents Esteban who was a guide for an expedition in search of the Seven Cities of Gold (Cibola). Esteban intentionally took the Spaniards on a "wild goose chase" and, because the Spaniards never "found" the gold, they killed Esteban when they returned to Zuni.
