Old Style Hopi Carved Hoote Traditional Kachina Doll (Katsina Doll)
Description
Old Style Hopi Carved Hoote Traditional Katsina Doll by the Katsinam
The symbols on the face of Hoote may be flowers, forecasting spring or, as in this case, the stars and the moon. He appears in ordinary dances and at Niman (Home Going). This carving was given to a young girl at a Kachina dance by one of the Katsinam. It is a wonderful example of a gifted carving. The Hoote has fabric sashes and painted canvas kilt and sash. The details are really nice. This is a very unusual piece and has great motion.
