Description

Old Style Hopi Carved Swaying Man Traditional Katsina Doll by Raynard Lalo

The Swaying Man is a fairly recent import from the Rio Grande area. He appears in the plaza dances and his function is to encourage the corn to grow and produce. His name comes from the swaying of the corn stalks in the wind, which he imitates in his dance.
