Old Style Hopi Carved Warrior Traditional Policeman Kachina Doll (Katsina Doll)

Description

Old Style Hopi Carved Warrior Traditional Policeman Katsina Doll by Eric Holmes

This Warrior (Ewiro) is an old style Third Mesa Katsina. He appears during Pachavu and later in Plaza Dances where he makes war on the Clowns. He functions as a policeman and oversees the cleaning of the springs. This particular carving by Eric shows the Ewiro holding his whip in one hand and eagle fluffs in the other. When it is time to make war on the clowns he throws the fluffs in the air, that is the signal for the Clowns to hide. This unique piece by Eric shows the Ewiro coming out of the clouds and the Clowns peeking out from behind the colorful Hopi symbols for rainclouds.
